I 2 ‐Catalyzed Synthesis of Disulfides by NaBH 4 Mediated Reductive Coupling of Phenylsulfonyl Imidazoles

Abstract The use of sodium borohydride as reductant allows the efficient I 2 /Phen‐catalyzed reductive coupling of phenylsulfonyl imidazoles, generating the S−S coupling products in moderate to good yields. The mild and non‐metal catalytic conditions display excellent functional group tolerance. This work suggests a new transformation via imidazolyl as a leaving group.
