The acrylic-modified rosin-based alkyd resin was obtained by single-glyceride method using acrylic propolymers, vegetable oil and maleopimaric anhydride. The structure of the product was characterized by IR. The effects of the acrylic resin amount, the vegetable oil type and amount and reaction time on the properties of the product were investigated. The result showed that the optimum synthesis conditions were as followed:using soybean oil and linseed oil, slow heating rate, acrylic resin amount 2% ~ 8%. The surface drying time and drying time of acrylic-modified rosin-based alkyd resin were shorter than that of the conventional alkyd resin and the hardness, impact resistance, adhesion and media resistance were better than that of general alkyd resin.
