Danshenextract salt Inhibits bleomycin-induced experimental pulmonary fibrosis

Aim: To evaluate the inhibitory effect of danshenextract salt on genesis of of bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis Methods: Animal model of pulmonary fibrosis was established in rats by endotracheal dripping of bleomycin with dose at 5mg per kg. There were four groups that were conducted for the evaluation of danshenextract salt on pulmonary fibrosis as control, fibrosis model, nintedanib and danshenextract salt groups. Nintedanib was administered by gastric lavarge and danshenextract salt by intraabdominal injection one day after the establishment of pumonary fibrosis. Lung tissue was collected for histology evaluation for pulmonary fibrosis and contents of hydroxyproline, ROS and GSH-Px were tested with the whole lung homogenate. Results: Less pulmonary alveolar damage and thinner alveolar septa with lower Ascroft scoring were detected in danshenextract salt and nintedanib groups as compared with the fibrosis model group, while no difference was detected among those parameters between the danshenextract and nintedanib groups. The hydroxylproline content in the whole lung homogenate was significantly lower in danshenextract salt and nintedanib groups than those in the fibrosis model group. There was significant decrease in ROS and increase in GSH-Px concentration in the whole lung homogenate in danshenextract salt and nintedanib groups than those in the fibrosis model group. Conclusion: The danshenextract salt can inhibit the bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis by modulating oxidative stress process.
