Objective To investigate the equity of resource distribution for eye care services in cities of Shanxi Province and to provide the theoretical basis of rational setting of medical resources. Methods Lorenz curve and Gini coefficient were used in a region-based analysis for the distributional equity of human resources, facilities and patient beds, according to the population of the urban and GDP per capita. Results In Shanxi Province, the distributional equity for eye care services was high in terms of human resources, number of facilities and patient beds, but was low in terms of value of facilities. Conclusion This finding suggests a need for enhanced allocation of eye care services by the government in economically under-developed regions.
