The hematopoietic stem cells(HSCs)are located in bone marrow niche, where they interact with specialized cells to regulate their self-renewal and differentiation. The osteoblasts and sinusoidal endothelial cells are closely associated with HSCs in the bone marrow, which are respectively referred to as osteoblastic niche and vascular niche. This review highlights the function of osteoblasts in maintaining a quiescent HSC microenvironment and the likely role of the vascular niche in the regulation of HSC proliferation, differentiation and mobilization. The research on HSCs and bone marrow niche will provide us novel insights for the therapeutic strategies of hematopoietic diseases.
