AIM:To investigate whether enamel matrix proteins (EMPs) could have any effect on human periodontal ligament cells′ synthesis of osteopontin and bone sialoprotein.METHODS:Standard primary cell culture methods were used to obtain human periodontal ligament cells (hPDLCs).Immunohistochemistry methods were used to investigate the ability of periodontal ligament cells′ synthesis of osteopontin and bone sialoprotein. The images of immunohistochemistry were analysed with HPIAS-1000 color image analyse system and the obtained data was analysed with SPSS. RESULTS: 50,100,200 mg/L EMPs promoted hPDLCs to synthesize osteopontin and bone sialoprotein. And the factor of time also had a role in the process.CONCLUSION:These results suggest that EMPs in certain concentration have the ability to promote hPDLCs′ synthesis of osteopontin and bone sialoprotein in some special period.
