This paper presents a novel wireless power transfer coil structure that outperforms traditional printed spiral coils (PSCs) in power transfer efficiency (PTE) and transfer distance. The advantage of the high coupling coefficient of Double-D (DD) coils is combined with the conformal strongly coupled magnetic resonance (CSCMR) technique to achieve high power transfer efficiency while restraining coil size. Simulations show that the proposed WPT link can deliver 89.47% power transfer efficiency at a transmission distance of 55 mm, 1.88 times greater than the 47.68% PSC-based link with the same coil outer dimension. The proposed coil structure is compatible with standard PSC receivers for vertical placement, which can avoid the interoperability problem between the DD coil and the unipolar coil.
