Boosting the catalytic activity of water splitting and oxygen reduction reactions through axial coordination to MN4–C model catalysts

By exploring 161 distinct MN 4 X–C SACs, optimal HER, OER, and ORR catalysts were identified. The axial ligand-induced d–p orbital hybridization ( Δ d–p ) could govern the activity via orbital passivation and electron redistribution.
