Determination of cross-linking degree of gelatin in gelatin sponge

Objective:To study and improve the quality of gelatin sponge, the cross-linking degree of gelatin in the product is determined.Method:The cross-linking degree of gelatin is deduced from the difference of amount of e-amino-groups of lysine in peptide chain of gelatin before and after the cross-linking of gelatin with formaldehyde, which is determined by using the reaction between TNBS and the amino-groups of amino acid.Result:The cross-linking degree of gelatin of domestic gelatin sponge samples is about 60%.Conclusion:The method appears suitable for the determination of cross-linking degree of gelatin in gelatin sponge.
