On the Metamemory-based Mechanism of Cranial Nerves

Metamemory is in essence an individual's self-awareness and self-regulation in memory activities.The study of metamemory has discovered that the neural bases of metamemory,non-metamemory and the memory process are separated.The study of metamemory monitoring has discovered that both prospective and retrospective metamemory tasks regulate the activity of the prefrontal cortex( PFC),with prospective metamemory tasks generally depending on the medial PFC,while the retrospective metamemory tasks depending on the lateral PFC.This shows the possible dissociation in different categories of metamemory judgments between the brain systems.This study reviews the research outcomes in the neural basis of metamemory in recent years so as to provide reference for domestic research.
