Characteristics of attached biomass and suspended biomass in a denitrifying MBBR

Moving bed biofilm reactor(MBBR) is a new kind of reactor for wastewater treatment.In order to provide experimental data for practical bioflim reactor choosing advisable ratio and activities of suspended biomass and attached biomass,the characteristics of attached biomass and suspended biomass in a batch denitrifying MBBR were instructed in this paper.Under the condition of 100 rpm and 0.32 kg NO3——N/m3· d,the attached biomass,biofilm thickness,the ratio of suspended biomass and attached biomass to the total biomass,and the activities of suspended biomass and attached biomass were tested at stable condition.The results showed that the average attached biomass was 33.7 mg/g and biofilm thickness reached to 114 μ m.At the same time,the percentage of attached biomass and suspended biomass was 89.9% and 10.1% that of total biomass,respectively.And COD utilization rate was 166.5 mg/g· h and the NUR was 32.1 mg/g· h for the attached biomass,while COD utilization rate was 65.9 mg/g· h and the NUR was 12.2 mg/g· h for the suspended biomass.
