Ammonia, one of the main substances of livestock odor, is reported to act as a major precursor of secondary fine dust along with the impact of odor on public health due to deterioration of air quality, so systematic emission management is needed. Livestock production ammonia is mainly generated by hydrolysis of urea in livestock urine by urease, a hydrolytic enzyme. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to suppress the hydrolysis of urea by inhibiting the activity of urease using acetohydroxamic acid, a urease inhibitor, and to suppress the generation of ammonia in advance. For this purpose, concentration of urea (500-4000 mg Urea-N/L), concentration of AHA (500-4000 mg AHA/L), pH (6-10) and temperature (10-35°C). As the injection concentration of AHA increased, the increase in urease activity inhibition efficiency was confirmed, the effect of pH and temperature changes on urease activity inhibition efficiency was confirmed, and the decrease in ammonia production due to the inhibition of urease activity by actual swine manure was confirmed. This study showed that AHA can be applied to reduce the generation of ammonia from livestock manure.
