Oxoacidity reactions in equimolar molten lead chloride-potassium chloride mixture at 475°C potentiometric study of the equilibria of exchange of O2- between Mg(II) and PbO

Abstract The behaviour of an yttria-stabilized zirconia electrode in the PbCl2KCl melt has been investigated at 475°C. The response of the electrode is Nernstian and permits its use in the titration of Mg(II) with oxide ions. We have observed that the PbCl2KCl melt is more acidic than the LiClKCl eutectic melt and less than ZnCl22NaCl, as well as that that mixture can be purified by the removal of oxide ions with gaseous reagents such as HCl and Cl2.
