摘要
Abstract This paper explores the notion of Xiang (象) as a dynamic perceptual framework foundational to Chinese aesthetics, emphasizing its role in bridging sensory experience with aesthetic meaning. Originating from early Chinese philosophy, Xiang evolved from a pictorial representation to a multifaceted notion that captures perceptual and emotional resonance. By situating Xiang alongside the Western concept of qualia, this study demonstrates how Xiang transforms sensory impressions into aesthetic representations, offering a nuanced model of multisensory and phenomenological engagement. Through a Xiang-centred framework, this paper addresses the unique progression of aesthetic experience in Chinese thought, emphasizing its dynamic nature and contribution to cross-cultural dialogues in aesthetics and philosophy.
