Skin-derived dendritic cell (DC) are potent antigen-presenting cells with critical roles in both adaptive immunity and tolerance to self. The immune system of the skin has a network of resident DC consisting of epidermal Langerhans cells(LC) and various subsets of dermal DC.DC subsets of healthy skin mainly include the epidermal LC,dermal dendritic cell (dDC),and plasmacytoid dendritic cell (pDC).dDCs are divided into Langerin + dDC and Langerin-dDC.In inflammatory skin, such as lesions in the skin of atopic dermatitis and psoriasis, there are inflammatory DC subsets.Because of the heterogeneous features of DC,each subset of DC has specialized functions.Skin DC subsets with specialized features provide new strategies for the treatment of skin diseases and the development of new vaccines.
