War Discourse

Abstract War discourse refers to the use of language and social interaction as a mediating element in the outbreak, conduct, and disputation of armed political conflict. This article identifies and outlines key elements of war discourse, which include call to arms rhetoric, the discursive construction of social identities, and the use of legitimating devices in language to make the actions associated with war appear appropriate, reasonable, and justifiable.
