Studies on the extraction of arecoline from areca nut

Arecoline and other organics were extracted from areca nut with alcohol and chloroform.Then,arecoline hydrobromide could be crystallized from the mixture,and arecoline was obtained by debromination with AgNO3.Experiment results indicated that the content of arecoline in the dry areca nut is 47% of that in fresh areca nut.80% of arecoline can be extracted from the areca nut with a purity(w)of 95%.
