Synthesis of Manaelic Acid Using Quaternary Ammonium Salt A-1

The synthesis of mandelic acid using quaternary ammonium salt A 1 was discussed. The catalytic activity of A 1,(C 8～10 H 17～21 ) 3N +CH 3Cl -, is better than that of some other short chain alkyl quaternary ammonium salts and polyethylene glycol. A 1 is not emulsive in separation and purification and can be recycled, which will make the separation and purification easier, and raise the yield. By using quaternary ammonium salt A 1, the yield of mandelic acid was 92%.
