In this paper, an activity-based and agent-based simulation model for Hong Kong Island (HKI) is developed. It is based on the MATSim (Multi-Agent Transport Simulation) framework. This paper focuses on development and implementation of MATSim for Hong Kong. Trial simulations that illustrate the convergence of the simulation model confirm its applicability for large-scale scenarios. It is shown that MATSim model is capable of providing time-dependent and high-resolution results, which open up opportunities to better support transport planning and policy-making.
