Abstract A review is presented of turbulent transport phenomena in flames. Both large-scale turbulent transport and small-scale mixing processes are considered and various mechanisms of interaction between combustion and turbulent flow are identified. Flame-surface density descriptions of turbulent combustion at high Damköhler numbers are discussed in detail and some topics are identified which require further attention. Emphasis is placed on problems of premixed turbulent combustion.
