DEVELOPMENT OF SOPHISTICATED INTERLOCKING SYSTEM

A sophisticated interlocking system has been developed to keep pace with the development of the advanced train control system called CARAT (Computer And Radio Aided Train control system). The new interlocking system which is incorporated in the CARAT system is made of a newly developed interlocking table and a new interlocking device. It improves flexibility of route setting without degrading the safety level of train traffic, e.g., it enables a multiple number of trains to stay on a specified route. This new interlocking system together with the CARAT system is currently under testing on the Joetsu Shinkansen Line.
