Objective To investigate the effect of Cordycepssinensis on the renal extracellular matrix(ECM) of Wistar rat with progressive glomerulosclerosis on the renal and the level of tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1(TIMP-1) mRNA of wiast rat with progressive glomerulosclerosis in rats. Methods 36 healthy Wiast rats were equally divided into three groups including control group, progressive glomerulosclerosis group and Cordycepssinensis-treated progressive glomerulosclerosis group. The second and the third groups were used to be the progressive glomerulosclerosis model by 5/6 kidney being nephrectomized. The treated group would be treated with Cordycepssinensis, contrary to the control group and progressive glomerulosclerosis group would be treated with eaqually water. The renal pathological changes of three groups were investigated after 4 weeks and 9 weeks. Immunohistochemistry was used to examine the expressions of fibronectin(FN), collagenⅣ. RT-PCR was used to examine the mRNA of TIMP-1. Results The Cordycepssinensis-treated progressive glomerulosclerosis group can reduce glomerulosclerosis index and the expressions of FN, collagenⅣ; can reduce the level of TIMP-1mRNA. Conclusion Cordycepssinensis can reduce the expressions of FN, collagenⅣ; and inhibit the level of TIMP-1mRNA. Cordycepssinensis can alleviate the accumulation of extracellular matrix.
