Abstract Transition metal‐catalyzed CH functionalization/CH bond activation is established as a standard protocol for the construction of new CC and C–heteroatom bonds, both in industries and in academia. But most of the methods are associated with the use of toxic and costly metals along with the generation of hazardous chemical as by‐products. Thus, in need of environmentally benign and sustainable methodology, iron‐catalyzed CH bond functionalization has gained much attention in recent times. Therefore, selective functionalization of heterocycles could be an easy method to access heterocyclic compounds which have applications in the fine chemical industry, medicinal chemistry, etc. In this article, we focused on the recent developments in CH bond functionalization of heterocycles using earth‐abundant iron salts toward the construction of carbon–carbon and carbon–heteroatom bonds.
