In order to study the influence of thread compound type on anti galling performance, by means of same torque and compound application method, thread breakout tests were carried out on 4 thread compounds by 4 standard sample tubes with the sample pipe, galling style, treatment method and makeup parameters of API standard and highly precise testing equipment. Test results showed thread compound greatly influenced anti galling performance. Among the chosen compounds, BESTOLIFE 2000 could meet the requirement of no serious thread damage after 9 times of makeup and breakout by API standard. With B96101, the thread could only stand 6 times and with 8401 and DH-2, the thread was seriously damaged after 3 times.
