I have re-examined in some properties such as raw material, cooking characteristics, pulp quality etc, especially in differences of use requirements between ammonium monosuiphite and kraft cooking for bamboo pulp.The results are as follows. (1) The cellulose content of bamboo varies distinctly with varying rates of growth of the same species as well as each parts of the stem. (2) Ammonium monosuiphite cooking : Although high unbleached brightness and high yield of pulp results from the cooking, the pulping reaction may take place considerably slowly and a variety of chlorine consumption of pulps be produced in the digester.These results suggest that semi-cooking of chips for high pulp yield may take place in commercial practice and unbleached pulp or semi-bleached pulp be employed for papeamaking. (3) Kraft cooking : The cooking takes place uniformly and the pulping reaction finishes very quickly. But easy bleaching pulp yield in 3∼5% less for the same chlorine consumption of pulp than yield in ammonium monosulphite or sulphite cooking. Kraft or soda cooking suits for manufacture of easy bleaching pulp. (4) Generally pulp yield of bamboo is inferior to wood.
