Socio-psychological features of the perception of idiopathic scoliosis in adolescence

Idiopathic scoliosis is one of the significant risk factors for the development of negative psychological conditions associated with decreased self-esteem, communication problems, and difficulties in building identity. The article presents the results of narrative interviews with adult patients with a severe form of scoliosis, discussing their perception of the onset of the disease and the related features of the identification process. According to the data obtained, adolescence is characterized by multiple reactions to the disease in the personality profile. Identity formation in the context of chronic illness is a dynamic process that requires a comprehensive approach in medical and psychological practice. Positive acceptance of the illness by the family group is an essential prerequisite for comprehensive therapy and avoidance of risky behavior.
