This study investigates how laypeople make sentencing decisions when a judge and an AI system provide conflicting recommendations. Using a 2 × 2 experimental design, we manipulate AI sentencing severity and the presence of prior criminal history. The findings aim to clarify how algorithmic recommendations shape high-stakes legal judgments.
