In this paper modification of flying ash (FA4) with hydrochloric acid was performed, which is then used as carrier of TiO2 photocatalyst. Further in the research of sol-gel synthesis conditions of titanium dioxide (TiO2) and its modification in composition was carried out in order to study photocatalytic process of wastewater treatment. During the synthesis in some samples TiO2 nanoparticles are added in a fraction of 1 wt% and 3 wt%, and the fraction of fly ash was varied in the amount of 16 wt% and 20 wt%. Five different samples of the photocatalyst titanium oxide was synthesized, which were characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and their photocatalytic validation was performed with UV/VIS spectrophotometer.
From the results of the photocatalytic activity it is evident that the highest photocatalytic activity has the pure synthesized sample TiO2, while after 60 minutes the photodegradation of reactive red dyes (RR45) show the same or slightly higher photocatalytic efficiency for the samples FA4 /16-TiB and FA4 /16-TiB-1.
