There are many small cities and villages in the flood plain of the Yellow River. By using the mathematical model to simulate the proceeding characteristics of "96.8" type typical flood in the Lower Yellow River. The results show that, under current complex boundary conditions, the proceeding of "96.8" type flood is better than 1996 year, especially the flood spreading time shorten and flood stage decrease obviously than before. However, from Jiahetan to Gaocun hydrologic station, the river channel overflow badly, which lead to the reduction rate of flood peak discharge bigger and storage water of floodplain is bigger; and 89% of Shandong floodplain form backwater zone, the flood can't return to the main channel, it should be defended importantly. In addition, woods affect the flood proceeding and the corresponding stage increases, and the storage water of floodplain increases, which lead to reduction rate of flood peak discharge increases and flood spreading time extend.
