Electrokinetic Measurements on Stainless Steel Capillaries

Electrokinetic potentials of stainless steel in , , and solutions have been measured by the streaming current technique. Negative zeta potentials are obtained in and in low acid concentrations. Isoelectric acid concentrations occur between 10 −4 and 10 −3 N . At higher concentrations positive potentials are obtained. adsorbs irreversibly at its isoelectric concentration of 10 −3 M as evidenced by the inability of water washing to return the sample to its original negative zeta potential.
