The minerals form and content of iron impurity were measured on dry and wet quartz sand from Fengyang county. The result indicated that the content of iron impurity in dry quartz sand and its magnetic susceptibility was significantly higher than wet quartz sand. The morphology,size and chemical composition of iron-containing impurities in two types quartz sand were analyzed by SEM and EDX.Results displayed that the iron-containing impurity particles were absorbed on the surface of two types quartz sand after being strong magnetic separated. Their sizes were generally in the range of 0. 5 ~ 5 μm.Experimental results showed that magnetic separation was very difficult to remove the iron-containing impurity particles with small size,low content and weak magnetism. Iron-containing impurity particles on the surface of dry quartz sand were more than wet quartz sand,it explained the reason that the content of iron impurity in dry quartz sand is more than wet quartz sand. Whether can effectively remove these ironcontaining impurity particles that adsorbed on the surface of the quartz sand directly affected the ironremoving efficiency.
