Synthesis of new betaine-type of amphoteric surfactants from dehydroabietic acid

Dehydroabietic acid was isolated and purified from disproportionated resin.Then two new betaine-types of amphoteric surfactants,N-(3-dehydroabietoxy-2-hydroxy) -N,N-dimethyl carboxymethyl betaine and N-(3-dehydroabietoxy-2-hydroxy)-N,N-dimethyl (2-hydroxy) sulfoxypropyl betaine,were synthesized through the intermediates of glycidyl dehydroabietate and teriary amine by using dehydroabietic acid as raw material.The structure of the target products was confirmed by UV,IR and MS spectra,and the surface tension and critical micelle concentration(CMC)of them were determined as well.
