Microsurgical Anatomy of Subarachnoid Cisterns in Sellar Region

Objective To investigate the limit of the subarachnoid cisterns in the sellar region and anatomical relationshoip between it and the adjacent structure.Method The subarachnoid cisterns were studied by microsurgical technique.Results The subarachnoid cisterns in the sellar region include the internal carotid cistern,the posterior communicating cistern,the internal carotid and posterior communicating cistern,the chiasmatic cistern,the pituitary cistern,the olfactory cistern,the lamina terminalis cistern,Sylvian cistern,the interpeduncular cistern,the crural cistern and the oculomotor cistern.The chiasmatic cistern lies in the center and is circled by the other cisterns regularly.Conclusion The subarachnoid cisterns in the sellar region lie regularly.The subarachnoid cisterns should in turn be opened to obtain a mimimally invasive surgery corridor.The orders of incising the cisterns in different approaches are different.
