Abstract We demonstrate the generation of an ultrashort light pulse with few-cycle duration and stable carrier-envelope phase using noncollinear optical parametric amplification (NOPA) in lithium triborate (LiB3O5, LBO) crystals. The system, pumped by the third harmonic at 343 nm from a Yb:KGW laser, amplifies passively carrier-envelope–stabilized seed pulses in the visible range produced by intrapulse difference frequency generation in a β-BaB2O4 crystal. Our results show that, owing to its wide transparency window, LBO is a promising crystal for NOPA at this practically important pump wavelength, where the use of other crystals is limited by two-photon absorption.
