View Video Presentation: https://doi.org/10.2514/6.2021-2799.vid Modern gyroplane performance was evaluated in limited scope on the FAA certified Calidus. There is no current standard for gyroplane performance testing which has resulted in a poor overall understanding of gyroplanes. The Calidus represents the latest in gyroplane design. It was built using aerospace grade materials, streamlined body shapes, and engines with desirable power-to-weight ratios. Flight testing was conducted by adapting classic techniques from the aviation community for fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft. The project evaluated the effectiveness and necessary adaptations of industry standard flight test techniques for conventional aircraft as they relate to gyroplane performance. Local COVID restrictions limited the scope of the project and the following should be viewed as a work in progress. The salient result thus far is a decrease in specific range as altitude increases. This relationship is opposite that of most aircraft who enjoy improved specific range with increasing altitude.
