Look-East Policy & North-East India: Its Challenges

. Every country must have to maintain their international relations. To maintainrelations with other countries, every country possesses certain policies. India’s Look-EastPolicy is one among them. Look-East Policy is mainly constructed to strengthen relationswith the countries of South-East Asia. Though the various Prime Ministers have given theirimportance to come closer with South-East Asian Countries, but in 1991 it has given a formalshape through making Look East Policy. After capturing power, the Modi Governmentrenamed it as Act East policy. The success of Look -East Policy lies in the development ofNorth-Eastern region. This region acts as a gateway to South -East Asia, which is a very vitalelement to Look-East Policy. Look-East Policy is considered as a part of North EasternRegion Vision 2020. But there are various challenges that Look - East Policy face. One of themajor aspects to maintain good relation with other countries is trade. But there is noimpressive expansion of trade with South-East Asian neighbours & it also observed that Indiahas given importance to maintain good relation with East Asian countries but ignored theimportance of North-East in this regard. This paper focuses on the challenges that Look EastPolicy face in the time of its implementation
