NiCl_2 cathode for high energy-density thermal battery

The thermal battery was prepared with high temperature-produced NiCl2 as the cathode. The flooding of the liquid electrolyte was explained by solution theory, which solved the safety problem of the battery. The electrolyte and anode material matching the high energy-density thermal battery were studied, and then LiCl-LiBr-LiF and LiB alloy were determined as the electrolyte and the anode material. The fluctuation of operating voltage is caused by concentration polarization. The voltage of battery with NiCl2 as the cathode is 25% higher than the battery with CoS2 as the cathode. The energy-density of the thermal battery sample with LiCl-LiBr-LiF as the electrolyte, LiB alloy as the anode and NiCl2 as the cathode can reach 84 Wh/Kg.
