A comparative study of Memantine and Donepezil on the treatment of Alzheimer′s disease

OBJECTIVE This paper is to discuss about the clinical effects and security of Memantine and Donepezil on the treatment of Alzheimer′s disease(AD).METHODS We divided 96 AD patients into two groups who were helped by Memantine and Donepezil separately.We did the mini-mental state examination and Clinical evaluation before the treatment,after 2 weeks,4 weeks,8 weeks,16 weeks,and 24 weeks.RESULTS The treatment effect was almost the same after 2 weeks,4weeks and 8 weeks,but the effect of Donepezil group is obviously better than the Memantine group after 16 weeks and 24 weeks.CONCLUSION Memantine and Donepezil have almost same effect on cure of AD in a short period,but Donepezil is much better Memantine in a long-period treatment.The two kinds of medicine are all safe whenever they are used long or short time.
