Medication abortion and complications in the following pregnancy

Objective To study the relationship between medication abortion and complications in the following pregnancy. Methods Complications during labor for 268 women with a history of medication abortion, 623 women with a history of induced abortion, and 329 women in their first parities were collected and compared. Results The frequencies of postpartum hemorrhage and placenta conglutination in the medication abortion group were lower than those in the induced abortion group (P0. 05). But the frequencies of threatened abortion, premature labor, and postpartum hemorrhage were higher in the former group than those in women in their first parities (P0. 05). Conclusion Medication abortion increases the risk of pregnancy complications although it is safer than induced abortion.
