Halogen-centered noncovalent interactions have shown their potentials in diverse areas of science and engineering. These can be generally formed (but not limited to) by hydrogen- and halogen-bonding interactions, due to the attraction between two sites of opposite polarities. However, on page 343, Pradeep Varadwaj and coworkers have shown that two covalently bound halogen derivatives in molecules that are positive on their outer electrostatic surfaces can attract one another to form intermolecular complexes.
