Influence of teicoplanin on the cytokines in normal rabbit aqueous humor

Objective To investigate the influence of teicoplanin on the cytokines in normal rabbit aqueous humor after intravitreal injection of teicoplanin.Methods Twenty-four rabbits were randomly assigned to two groups:the experimental group (teicoplanin 1.0 mg,0.1 mL) and control group(normal saline 0.1 mL),12 rabbits per goup.The body weight of the animal was 2.5 to 3.0 kg.Teicoplanin or normal saline was injected into the vitreous body of the right eyes.The aqueous humor (0.1 mL) was extracted from every rabbit before operation and 1 d.2 d,3 d,14 d,28 d after operation.The concentration of TGF-β_2,IFN-γ,IL-6,and IL-8 were determined by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay.Results The concentration of TGF-β_2 in aqueous humor was 403.86±2.93 pg/mL in the experimental group and 403.83±2.30 pg/mL in control group before operation. Its level began to reduce significantly after operation(P0.05).The levels of IFN-γ,IL-6,and IL-8 in aqueous humor was 340.41±17.36 pg/mL,46.40±1.87 pg/mL,and 44.73±1.37 pg/mL respectively in the experimental group before operation,and increased after operation.The levels of IFN-γ,IL-6,and IL-8 in aqueous humor was 340.10±13.78 pg/ mL,46.56±1.86 pg/mL,and 44.59±0.52 pg/mL respectively in control group before operation,and increased after operation. Conclusions Intravitreal injection of teicoplanin 1.0 mg did not influence the concentration of TGF-β_2,IFN-γ,IL-6 or IL- 8 in aqueous humor.However,intravitreal injection procedure may decrease the concentration of TGF-β_2 and increase the concentration of IFN-γ,IL-6 and IL-8 in aqueous humor.
