Methods This study was based on an assessmant of 36 patients who required retainment after under-going orthodontic treament. The patients were randomly divided into three groups: group A(Hawley removable retainer),group B(the multistrand stainless wire retainer), and group C(the superfibred retainer). The changes of periodontal clinical symptoms were assessed by GI, PLI, CI after one week, one month, three months, and six months. Results The GI, PLI, CI of group B and group C were significantly greater than those of group A, and these values of group B were greater than those of group C.Conclusion The effects of the lingual fixed retainer are more serious than those of the removable retainer, and the multistrand stainless wire retainer is the most.
