The Relationship between Plasma Homocysteine Concentration and the Ischemic Stroke in Young and Middle-aged Adults

Objective To discuss the relationship between plasma homocysteine concentration and the ischemic stroke in young and middle-aged adults,and influence factors of the plasma homocysteine concentration.Method The plasma levels of homocysteine in 40 ischemic stroke in young and middle-aged adilts and 40 healthy controls was measured by high-performance liquid chromatography.Rrsults The plasma homocysteine concentrations in ischemic stroke patients were higher than in controls(P0.05),and those in young ischemic stroke patients were higher than in middle-aged patients(P0.05).The levels of folate and VitB12 in ischemic stroke patients were higher than in controls(P0.05),The plasma homocysteine concentrations have relationship with the levels of folate and VitB12(P 0.05).Conclusion Homocysteine level is one of the important risk factors to the ischemic stroke,and has more influence to young patients than to middle-aged patients.The folate and VitB12 levels have influence on homocysteine levels.
