This chapter explores the water-energy-food (WEF) nexus as an integrated framework vital for advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) amidst growing global challenges. It introduces the concept of the WEF nexus, which transcends traditional resource management by emphasizing the interconnections between water, energy, and food systems. This approach advocates for a holistic management strategy that recognizes the synergies and trade-offs among these critical resources, thus enhancing sustainable development. Through the systematic mapping of the interlinkages between the WEF nexus and the SDGs, the chapter provides a comprehensive view of how integrated resource management can accelerate progress toward these global goals. A practical case study of the Ganges River basin is presented to ground the theoretical concepts in reality, illustrating the critical water-energy nexus that sustains millions of lives. Additionally, the chapter includes examples from the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) demonstrating the practical benefits and implementation of the WEF nexus approach. These case studies highlight the enhanced resource efficiency and broader development benefits achievable through integrated management. The goal of this chapter is not only to inform but also to equip policymakers, researchers, and practitioners with the necessary tools to implement the WEF nexus framework effectively.
