The Cover Feature shows an Electron Donor Acceptor (EDA) complex between N-methylmorpholine (NMM, organic base), and the Umemoto's reagent. This EDA complex is activated thermally, however, visible light illumination is required in most other cases. In the illustrated case, the electron transfer process produces CF3 radicals and the radical cation of NMM. CF3 radicals add onto aromatic rings accomplishing trifluoromethyl group substitution.
