Application of Metaphor and Representation of Ideology in News Discourse——A Case Study of "The Pajama Game Closes in Shanghai"

Based on the theory of conceptual metaphor and multimodal metaphor,this paper aims to interpret the metaphors used in news discourse and their functions,including both verbal metaphors and non-verbal metaphors.The material chosen is a report from New York Times titled as The Pajama Game Closes in Shanghai.This paper argues that by using metaphor,the inner ideology can be revealed through conceptual metaphor;news discourse contains both verbal and non-verbal metaphor,with the latter being more impressive and vivid.
