1.7 Copper-Catalyzed/Mediated Trifluoromethylation and other Fluoroalkylations

Abstract The trifluoromethyl group and other fluoroalkyl groups have received great attention in organic and medicinal chemistry due to their unique properties, such as their strong electronegativity and high lipophilicity. Consequently, the development of methods for the introduction of trifluoromethyl and fluoroalkyl groups into organic molecules has recently seen remarkable progress. In this chapter, copper-catalyzed/mediated fluoroalkylation reactions, including trifluoromethylation, difluoromethylation, and trifluoromethylthiolation are summarized.
