Septic shock is the multi-organ dysfunction that endangers the life of the patient, causing an inflammatory response of the organism being very serious, accompanied in addition to persistent arterial hypotension which occurs as a result of inadequate tissue perfusion.
This lack of contribution is due to the fact that the amount of blood that reaches the tissues is insufficient due to the malfunctioning of the heart, caused by a loss of body fluids (hypovolemic shock) or a serious infection (septic shock). The most frequent manifestations are rapid breathing, increased heart rate, confusion, dizziness, fever, decreased diuresis, among others. Finally, septic shock is a type of shock that occurs as a result of a generalized inflammatory response of the organism due to an infection.
Between a third and half of patients with sepsis die. Sepsis constitutes 60-80% of deaths in developing countries. In Ecuador, the main causes of maternal deaths (hemorrhages, sepsis and hypertensive diseases of pregnancy) cover almost 60% of cases.(GPC, 2016)
