Synthesis of Intumescent Flame Retardant, a Polymer of Phosphoric Acid-pentaerythritol-melamine, and its Application in PP

The synthetic conditions and intumescent effect of phosphoric acid pentaerythritol melamine polymer were studied. Fire retardance of PP was studied by means of testing oxygen index and horizontal flammability. The results showed: that the intumescent effect is affected by the composition of fire retardant. The fire retardance of PP is increased remarkably as the intumescent effect and phosphorus content increase.
