No.1 desert highway in Taklimakan, as a main way for transporting good to oil fields , runs into the hinterland of the Taklimakan desert. Sand disaster is the main threat to the highway because of the tough environment and the approximate right angle between the road trend and the dominated wind direction. By field investigation and accurate landform survey of the highway shelter system, it shows: disaster in the interdune of Complex Longitudinal Ridge is light, the mean width of sand-buried belt is 9.09m; In the windward slope of Complex Longitudinal Ridge, sand disaster is slightly serious, at which the mean width of sand buried area is 0.94m, width of dune-occupied area is 1.96 m and wind erosion 0.43 m; disasters in the Crest of Complex Longitudinal Ridge is serious, at which the mean width of sand-buried area is 15.59/m, dune-occupied 6.68m and wind erosion area 3.15m.In the lee slope of Complex Longitudinal Ridge, disaster is slightly light, of which mean width of sand buried area is 2.85m and dune-occupied area 0.04m.
